FAQ'S
Who can participate
Teams whose members fundraise or self-donate a minimum of $250 per participant will be able to attend the event. We encourage corporate teams, friends and families to get together and support those living with melanoma and skin cancer.
Is there a minimum fundraising amount to participate?
Yes, each participant must raise a minimum of $250 in order to participate in the in-person 7 Summits Snowshoe Challenge.
What if all our team members don’t raise $250?
For every $250 the team fundraises – 1 team member qualifies to participate
Example 1) If a team of 4 raises $1,000 all 4 members will be allowed to participate, even if one participant did not raise the $250.
Example 2) If a team of 4 raises $750, the team can select 3 team members to attend the event.
How big/small should my team be?
Your team should be a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 10. We recommend teams larger than 10 break up into smaller teams. You can contact us to ensure your smaller teams are given the same route so you can complete the challenge together.
Is there a minimum distance that I must snowshoe?
There is no minimum you must snowshoe however; your team goal will be to complete the distance equal to the 7 summits below:
- Puncak Jaya – 4.88km
- Vinson Massif – 4.89km
- Elbrus – 5.64km
- Kilimanjaro – 5.89km
- Mt Denali – 6.19km
- Aconcagua – 6.96km
- Everest – 8.84km
DID YOU KNOW?
YOUR SKIN IS AT RISK ALL YEAR ROUND
Snow can reflect the sun’s UV rays by up to 88%, this combined with a higher altitude can make winter sun every bit as damaging on the slopes as it is on the beach!
Even on cloudy days, winter sports enthusiasts are at greater risk of skin damage – this is because up to 80% of the sun’s harmful UV rays can penetrate cloud cover. It is also important to understand that both snow and strong winds can wear away any sunscreen protection used and thereby reduce its effectiveness, so it is particularly important to actively reapply at least every 2 hours.
85% of skin cancers are caused by UV radiation.
Checked your
skin lately?
We’ll show you how. Checking your skin is easy as your ABCDE’S. ‘Know your normal’, so you can find any changes in your skin as soon as they appear.
